LET'S START!

On September 1, 2018 the SEA FOREST LIFE project was officially started, a LIFE project co-financed by the European Union, carried out by nine Italian and one Maltese partners. Our goal is the conservation of Posidonia oceanica prairies and their carbon deposits.

What is the project about? Posidonia is a marine plant that plays a very important role in the ecosystem, helping us to fight climate change, thanks to its ability to capture carbon dioxide and trap carbon inside its sediments. The Posidonia prairies of the Mediterranean, however, are in danger. They are a fragile but vital ecosystem for the planet, and we want to protect it and preserve it in the best possible way!

The project coordinator D.R.E.Am. Italia took part in the kick-off meeting of the projects funded under the LIFE 2017 programme in the Climate Action programme in Brussels on 2-3 October 2018.

The SEAFOREST LIFE project and the actions with which we want to contribute to the conservation of Posidonia  oceanica meadows in three Italian National Parks have been illustrated: National Park of Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni; National Park of Asinara and National Park of the La Maddalena Archipelago.
